Guest Lecture on Union Budget 2022-23 and Economic Recovery

Department of Economics, has organised a guest lecture on Union Budget 2022-23 and economic recovery on 11/02/2022 at 11:30 AM via Zomm APP. Dr. Gotla Nagaraju , Associate Professor of NIBM, was the guest speaker on the occasion. A total of 68 students joined the lecture. Dr. Gulnawaz Usmani was the coordinator of the lecture. 

Guest Lecture on International Trade in Services

  Department of Economics, Poona College of Arts, Science & Commerce has organized a guest lecture on International Trade in Services on 12/12/2021 at 10AM via Zoom App. Dr. Salahuddin Ayyub, Deputy Director, Services Export Promotion Council of India, Ministry of Commerce; Govt. of India was the speaker on the occasion. Lecture started with the recitation of holy Quran by Ms. Reem (FYBA Student). Principal Prof. (Dr) Aftab Anwar Shaikh Sir has delivered the welcome address. Ms. Reem Sayyed a student of BA Economics introduced the Guest speaker. Dr. Ayyub has highlighted the important services those are leading in international trade. Dr. Ayyub has also focused on the issue that how the services are traded.   He enlightens the students about various schedule commitment of GATS/FTAs. One Day Workshop Entrepreneurship Development

  Department of Economics, PG & Research Centre organized one day workshop on Entrepreneurship Development on 28/02/2022 at 10 AM via Zoom App. Dr. Shahid Jamal Ansari, Hod Department of Economics, proposed the welcome address. Dr. Mohd. Ashfaq Siddiqui, Associate Professor at Infinity Management and Engg. College, Sagar (MP) and Dr. Farha Khan Associate Professor RKDF Univeristy, Bhopal (MP) was the resource person. Dr. Siddiqui proposed the objective and importance of business management while Dr. Khan explained the entrepreneurship development. Dr. Khan focused on the role of entrepreneurship in the economic development. Further she explained how can be a successful entrepreneurship. Dr. Gulnawaz Usmani, was the coordinator of the programme. A total of 76 students have attended the workshop.  

World Population Day

  The World Population Day is a United Nations initiative that the entire world celebrates on the 11th of July every year. Furthermore, the aim of this day is to create awareness about the exploding world population and the importance of reproductive health. Department of Economics, P.G. & Research Centre observed “World Population Day” on 11 th July, 2021 at 2:30p.m.   Dr. Mallika Mistry, Assistant Professor of the Department (Retd.), delivered the Lecture through Zoom App. She explained why UN initiated this program to combat the issue of the growing population and raise awareness among the public about the same. Most noteworthy, on a vast scale World Population Day focuses on the need and importance of controlling the increasing population of the world. She emphasized on the importance of family planning as in 2018, the program had the slogan “Family planning is a human right”. Online National Symposium on "Challenges & Opportunities for Farmers in India"

  The Department of Economics (Post Graduate & Research Centre), AKI’s Poona College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Camp, Pune in association with Sacred Heart College, Chalakudy, Kerala organized an Online National Symposium on Opportunities & Challenges for Farmers in India on 23 rd December, 2020 to celebrate the Farmer’s Day as it is an important and relevant topic concerning the state of farmers in India. A number of College and University teachers, Bankers and Research scholars participated in this prestigious symposium. This Symposium was conducted through Zoom Video Conferencing. A certificate of participation was shared electronically after the feedback form was filled. There was no Registration Fee for participation. The programme started with the Welcome & Presidential Address by Dr. Aftab Anwar Shaikh, Principal, Poona College of Arts, Science and Commerce. Guest Lecture on ‘’Operating of Deposit Accounts”

  An online guest lecture was organized by the Department of Economics (Post Graduate & Research Centre) on the topic “Operating of Deposit Accounts” on 2 nd December, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. through Zoom Platform.   Mr. Jabbar N. Shaikh, Chief Manager & Faculty of Staff Training Centre, Bank of Maharashtra conducted the session on the above topic. This lecture was scheduled for all the F.Y. B.Com. - Banking & Finance students to gain knowledge on the procedure of opening of deposit accounts in the banks. The students learnt about the process of transfer and closing of accounts. The details of Know Your Customer Norms, (KYC Norms) were explained during the lecture along with relevant documents required to open an account in the bank. He discussed the different types of accounts in a bank both individual and institutional. More than 58 students attended the lecture. Dr. Ana Mateen was the coordinator of the session.

Web-talk on Budget 2021-22

  A Webtalk was organized by the Department of Economics (Post Graduate & Research Centre) on 15 th February 2021 at 12:00 pm. Dr. Ashish Kulkarni, Assistant Professor, Gokhale Institute of Politics & Economics was the guest speaker of the programme. He has emphasized on the structure of the budget. He has also thrown light on the all the components of the budget. Further, He discussed how the well planned budget is important for the smooth functioning of an economy. International Web-talk on International Migration and Its Impact on Global Economic Order

  An International Web-Talk was organized by the Department of Economics (Post Graduate & Research Centre) on 04 th February, 2021 at 01:00 pm. Mr. Ahmad Wali Ahmad Yar, Vrije University, Brussel, Belgium, was the guest speaker of the programme. He has emphasized on the problem in the availability of international migration data because of different methods and measures to collect the data. Further, he classified the different forms of migration. He said that migration has various macroeconomic effects as migration increases world GDP, in particular with increase in productivity. At last he said migration is beneficial for the host country as migration provide the cheap labour and advanced skills. Overall 114 students attended the web-Talk. Web-talk on Basics of Interest Free Banking (Islamic Banking)

A Webtalk was organized by the Department of Economics (Post Graduate & Research Centre) in collaboration with Department of Urdu, Arabic And Persian on 30 th January, 2021 at 01:30 pm. Dr. Asif Akhtar, Assistant Professor, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), was the guest speaker of the programme. He has thrown light on the conventional banking and Islamic banking. He has explained about the basic elements of Islamic Banking like Riba (Interest), Gharar (Uncertainity/Risk). Dr. Akhtar also explained about the strength and weaknesses and how these institutions (Islamic banking) make them compatible with the RBI’s Regulations. Sir also said that Islamic banking is not just for Muslims it is just a myth and we have to work on it that how we make it free from such myths. Overall 143 students attended the webtalk. Web-talk on Approaches of development in Indian Context

  A Webtalk was organized by the Department of Economics (Post Graduate & Research Centre) on 27 th January, 2021 at 12:30 am. Dr. CS Verma, Associate Professor, Giri Institute of Development Studies (GIDS), Lucknow was the guest speaker of the programme. He has emphasized on the Capabilities approach of Amartya Sen and market-based approach with especial emphasis on health and education. He has also thrown light on the political influence in the development process. Public expenditure and the role of state in attaining or sustaining the development were also explained by him. He mainly focused on the sectors which required more attention by the Government for their increased contribution in the GDP like health, education, women empowerment etc. Overall 74 students attended the webtalk.
